Apply tyre black to the sidewall, not to the tread. This category covers tyre black and tyre dressing in a matt and a gloss finish, water-based or silicone. Water-based dries faster and throws fewer splashes onto the rim. Silicone holds the shine longer. If you want the rim edge tidy before handover as well, that is a job for adhesive weight removers. Allow about a quarter of an hour between applying and handover, so the tyre is no longer tacky when the customer drives off.

Tyre black: which finish and which base
Matt or gloss
A matt tyre black gives a tyre that looks new without drawing attention. Use gloss when the customer asks for it or on a showroom car. Look at the tyre itself: an old, dry sidewall takes up more product and goes too dark more quickly.
Water-based or silicone
Water-based tyre black soaks in quickly and leaves no greasy film. Silicone gives a deeper shine and holds it longer, but it has to dry completely before the car leaves the door. Wash the tyre, let it dry and only then apply the product.
Handover without marks
Work with a sponge or a brush, not with an aerosol next to the car. Mask the rim or wipe it clean straight away. To remove old adhesive weights and glue residue, use adhesive weight removers, so the rim edge is clean before you put the tyre in the black dressing. Fit new weights only once the rim is dry, with wheel weights in the size that suits the rim.
Which tyre size when
On a standard tyre a thin coat over the whole sidewall is enough. Keep off the tread, even if the product happens to land there when the wheel goes on.
