A wheel balancer runs on a balancing shaft with a set of clamps, cones and quick-release nuts. If you work on a Ravaglioli, look up the part by the make and model of the machine. Measure the old clamp or cone before you order: the shaft diameter and the thickness are on the rating plate or on the part itself. For motorcycle wheel rims there are motorcycle adapters for wheel balancers that fit a standard shaft. New clamping clamps you order in the same size as the old one, otherwise the set will not fit the shaft.

Check the rating plate of the machine to see which make and model you have. Then measure the old clamp or cone: the shaft diameter, the thickness and the shape. Quick-release nuts and quick-release clamps come in sizes such as 36 x 3 mm and 40 x 3 mm shaft diameter. With those sizes you look up the right part. If you are unsure, measure the shaft itself with a vernier calliper.
A wheel balancer lasts for years and there are several shaft sizes. A clamp that fits a 36 mm shaft will not fit a 40 mm shaft. By measuring the old clamp, you order the right size in one go. A photo of the old part next to a ruler helps to find the replacement.
You can, with a separate mounting adapter for motorcycle wheels. It goes on the same shaft as a car wheel, so you do not need a second wheel balancer. When ordering, check the shaft diameter of your machine and the hub size of the rims you balance. That way you know whether the adapter fits your shaft.
Look for play, rust and wear on the contact face with the shaft. Compare the old cone with the new one in the same place. A cone with a worn edge or a clamp with damaged thread is better replaced. Measure the shaft diameter with a vernier calliper, not with a tape measure, then you know for sure the new part fits.
Wheel weight pliers for fitting and removing knock-on weights, and a rim width gauge to measure the rim width before you set up the machine. Both belong to the balancing work itself. Keep them by the wheel balancer so you do not have to search during the job. A pressure cup should also be on the machine.
Mounting parts for the wheel balancer
Which size clamp or cone do you need
On a wheel balancer not every clamp fits every shaft. First check the rating plate of the machine to see which make and model you have. Then measure the old clamp or cone: the shaft diameter, the thickness and the shape of the cone. Quick-release nuts and quick-release clamps come in sizes such as 36 x 3 mm and 40 x 3 mm shaft diameter. If you are unsure between two sizes, measure the shaft the clamp goes on.
Mounting parts for motorcycle wheel rims
If you also balance motorcycle wheel rims, you need a separate mounting. With motorcycle adapters for wheel balancers you mount a motorcycle wheel rim on the same shaft as a car wheel. You then work on a standard shaft, without a second wheel balancer. When ordering, check the shaft diameter of your machine and the hub size of the rims you balance most often.
Check clamps and cones before you order
Check a clamp or cone for play, rust and wear on the contact face with the shaft. Compare the old one with the new one in the same place. A cone with a worn edge or a clamp with damaged thread is better replaced. Measure the shaft diameter with a vernier calliper, not with a tape measure.
Wheel weight pliers and rim width gauge
Besides the mounting, your hand tools set the pace. With wheel weight pliers you fit knock-on weights on the rim edge and remove old weights. A rim width gauge you use to measure the rim width before you set up the machine. Both belong to the balancing work itself, not to the machine.
Pressure cups and safety
A wheel balancer should have a pressure cup over the spinning wheel. If it is missing or damaged, order a new one. pressure cups come per machine and per size. Check the rating plate to see which model you have and measure the old cup. A cup that no longer fits or no longer holds, replace it before you balance again.
Ordering without mistakes
For every order, note the make and model of the wheel balancer, the shaft diameter and the size of the old part. A photo of the rating plate or of the old part next to a ruler helps to find the right size.
