Replace the demounting head as soon as you notice scratches on the rim or when the head itself shows visible wear or play. In intensive use in a professional workshop, this is typically about once a year. Do you frequently work with aluminium rims? Then also replace plastic protectors and inserts in time — this helps prevent costly damage claims on painted or polished wheels.

Metal demounting heads last longer and are ideal for steel rims and heavier tires. Plastic (POM/nylon) demounting heads — or metal heads with plastic protectors — are more rim-friendly and therefore the standard for aluminium and painted rims. In practice, many workshops keep both variants in stock to handle different types of work efficiently.

Pressing rubbers and sliding plates are wear parts that, depending on how many tires you change per day, are typically replaced every 6 to 12 months. Worn pressing rubbers provide less grip and can cause slipping; damaged sliding plates may leave scratches on the rim. Timely replacement protects both your customers’ wheels and the lifespan of your tire changer.
