Rubber pads
A rubber pad sits on the arm pad and is the only contact between the car lift and the body. Once the rubber is worn, the steel plate of the pad touches the vehicle. That damages the sill or the chassis point. Before you order, look up the make and model of your car lift and measure the old pad: the diameter, the thickness and the mounting. Which rubber pad fits your car lift
Rubber pads come per car lift make and per pad. The same make may have used different lifting arms over the years, so the make alone is not enough. Find the type plate on the car lift and measure the old pad: outside diameter, thickness and the way it sits on the pad. For a Maha, Slift or Automaster, Maha / Slift / Automaster rubber pad for 2-post car lift fits; for a Stertil Koni, Beissbarth, FOG or Mondolfo Ferro there is Stertil Koni / Beissbarth / FOG / Mondolfo Ferro rubber pad for 2-post car lift. If you are unsure between two sizes, measure the pad on the other lifting arm as well.
When a rubber pad needs replacing
A rubber pad that has gone hard no longer grips the body. You can see it in cracks, in pieces coming loose or in a pad that is squashed flat. If there is only a little rubber left between the steel pad and the vehicle, the metal touches the sill. That is the moment to replace it, not later. Put a new pad next to the old one and compare the thickness; a few millimetres difference only shows when they lie side by side.

Keeping pads in stock
If you run several car lifts of different makes, it pays to keep a set of rubber pads in stock for each lift. You then replace a worn pad straight away, without the lift standing idle for a day.
