Which pad belongs to your machine

The bead breaker shovel differs by make and by model. A pad for Corghi sits differently on the shovel than a pad for Ravaglioli or Bosch. So first look up the make and model of your tyre changer, on the rating plate or in the manual. Then order the pad that goes with it. The names in this range state the makes the pad was made for, so you find the right line quickly. If you are unsure between two sizes, measure the old pad next to the shovel: the length and width of the rubber tell you which version you need.

When a pad needs replacing

Rubber wears. You see it in an impression left in the rubber, in cracks at the edges and in a pad that has gone hard. A worn pad lets the heel of the tyre come against the rim edge, with scratches on the rim as a result. Replace the pad as soon as the rubber no longer springs back or the edges come loose. Lay a new pad next to the old one before you fit it, then you see straight away whether the shape is right.

Fitting and the tools around it

The pad slides over the shovel and stays put through its own tension. After fitting, check that it lies flat over its full length and does not pull crooked. For the rest of the tyre equipment there is tyre lever protection and clamping jaw protection, so the levers and the jaws leave no marks either. For the demounting head there are inserts for demounting heads.
