Demounting head protections
Mounting head inserts fit into the head of the tyre changer. They stop the head from touching the rim bed when you mount and demount tyres. The inserts are plastic and slide over alloy and steel rims without leaving scratches. Order by the make and model of your tyre changer, because the shape and the fixing differ per head. Measure the old insert before you order. The bead breakers need separate protection, see protection for bead breakers.

Choosing mounting head inserts
Which inserts fit your mounting head
The inserts in this category are made for the mounting heads of Ravaglioli, Corghi and Bosch machines, among others. The shape and the fixing differ per machine, so write down the make and model of your tyre changer first. Then find the insert that belongs to that head. If you are unsure between two versions, measure the old insert: the length, the width and the way it clicks or sits in the head. That way you avoid ordering an insert that does not fit the head.
Top and bottom of the head
A mounting head needs protection on the top and on the bottom. The inserts for the bottom protect the part that runs along the rim bed, the inserts for the top protect the part that pushes the tyre onto the rim. Some machines have a leverless head, others a head with a lever. Order the version that belongs to your head. For the bead breakers, the lifters and the clamping there are separate protection parts, such as protection for centre hole clamping.
When to replace an insert
Plastic inserts wear. You can see it from a worn edge, a crack or an insert that sits loose in the head. A worn insert lets the head touch the rim bed, and that shows up as scratches on alloy rims. Replace the insert straight away. Keep a spare set in the workshop, because without an insert you cannot mount an alloy rim safely. For the clamping jaws and the lifters there are separate protection parts, such as protection for clamping jaws.
Ordering and checking
On delivery, check whether the insert has the same shape as the old one. Put them side by side and look at the fixing and the thickness of the plastic. If it does not fit, send it back before you mount it. That keeps the mounting head intact and the rim bed of every rim clean.
