Which drive size do you need?
A ratchet set combines a ratchet with a range of sockets. The drive size determines the use. 1/4 inch is for light work and small bolts. 1/2 inch is for heavy-duty bolts and higher torque. If you mainly work on cars, 1/2 inch is the safe choice. For motorcycles or bicycles, 1/4 inch is enough.
