Hose tails and hose clips
A hose tail is a barbed nipple you slide the hose over. The barbs stretch the rubber so it grips itself, and a clip around it does the real work. Without a clip the hose blows off the moment pressure arrives. The size of a tail is the bore of the hose. The size of a clip is the range it closes over, measured on the outside of the hose. So those two numbers are not the same, and that is the mistake made most often.

Answers to the most common questions from our customers
Measure the outside diameter of the hose once it is on the tail, so with the stretched wall included. Pick a clip where that size sits comfortably in the middle of the range. Right at the bottom of the range the band is nearly closed and you have no adjustment left.
DIN 3017 is the standard for worm drive clips. W1 describes the material: band, housing and screw are all zinc-plated steel. W2 and above have stainless parts. For compressed air inside a dry workshop, W1 is fine.
Take 9 mm for thin hose and 12 mm for thick or thick-walled hose. A wide band spreads the load over more rubber, which is exactly what you want on a thick wall. On thin tube a wide band just creases it.
Until the rubber just starts to bulge through the slots in the band, then stop. Going further cuts the band into the rubber and it leaks instead. Check it a day later: rubber settles, so there is often another quarter turn in it.
No. At low pressure it seems to hold, but at six to eight bar the hose comes off. The barbs are there to let the hose grip, not to hold it back. Count on one clip per joint, and two on heavy hose.
