Push-in fittings

A push-in fitting holds your air line without a clamp, tape or tools. You push the tube in until it stops. A steel gripper ring bites the outside and a lip seal closes around it. To release, press the ring and pull the tube straight back out. They come in two flavours. Nickel-plated brass takes 20 bar and 80 degrees. Plastic is lighter and cheaper, but stops at 10 bar and 60 degrees. For a workshop ring main, brass is the choice you never revisit.

Frequently asked questions about Push-in fittings

Answers to the most common questions from our customers

The size on the fitting is the outside diameter of the tube, not the bore. A 6 mm fitting takes a tube measuring 6 mm on the outside. Check the tube itself: it usually reads 6x4, and 6 is the number you need.
BSPT is tapered. That thread seals itself in the port. BSPP is parallel and seals on an O-ring or washer against the face around the port. They screw together mechanically, but a BSPP thread in a tapered port will leak.
Yes. Press the release ring and pull the tube straight out. Trim the last centimetre off the tube before you push it back in, because the gripper ring leaves scratches where the seal has to run.
Nearly always because the tube was cut at an angle or is not pushed in far enough. Cut it square with a tube cutter, not with pliers, and push until you feel the stop. A damaged or oval tube will never seal.
Swivel means the top rotates freely once the thread is tight. That lets you aim the tube exactly where you want it. On a fixed fitting the thread decides the angle, so you are stuck with wherever it happens to end up.
