Which size and drive do you need?
You choose a single socket on two points: the drive and the size. The drive is 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch. It must fit your ratchet or torque wrench. The size is the opening in millimetres. Measure the nut or bolt, or check the size marked on the socket. This way you order a replacement for a lost socket with confidence.
Where it goes wrong when ordering
A common mistake is choosing the wrong drive. A 1/2 inch socket does not fit a 3/8 inch ratchet. Always check the square on your tool. Also look at the profile: a hex profile grips the nut more firmly, while a bi-hex profile is handier in tight spots. Choose the profile that suits your work.
