A corroded wiper arm cannot be levered off without damaging the splined shaft — and that shaft is part of the wiper linkage, which turns it into an expensive repair. This puller clamps around the arm and presses it straight off the shaft. Universal span, fits most passenger cars.
Why not just lever it off
A wiper arm sits on a splined shaft and is held by a single nut. Undo that nut, pull on the arm, and usually nothing happens: years of rainwater have seized the splines. The temptation is to lever underneath it with a screwdriver.
That is exactly where it goes wrong. The splined shaft is the output shaft of the wiper linkage; bend it and the whole mechanism no longer runs freely, and you end up replacing a motor that was fine. The repair costs many times what the tool does.
The puller clamps under the arm and presses on the shaft with its spindle, so the arm comes off straight. Turn evenly; on a truly seized arm a tap on the spindle head helps break the splines loose.
