How to choose the right connecting plate
What size do you need?
Connecting plates and corner brackets come in various sizes. Choose the size based on the thickness of the wood or metal you are joining. A 100 x 35 mm plate suits thin boards. For a workbench or a heavy frame, pick a larger plate or a 40 x 40 mm corner bracket. Always measure the material thickness and the load the joint must carry.
What to check when ordering?
Check the hole diameter in the plate. It must match the screws you use. Holes that are too large cause play, while holes that are too small may break when tightening. Also look at the number of holes. More holes mean a stronger joint but require more screws. For a light shelf, four holes are enough. For a workbench, choose a plate with more fixing points.
Which finish should you pick?
Galvanised steel is the standard for internal use. It is strong and lasts long in a dry environment. For external or damp areas, choose stainless steel. It does not rust and stays stable, even in changing weather. Never use galvanised steel where it can get wet. The coating wears off and the steel corrodes. So choose the finish that suits the environment.
