Floor Jacks

You choose a jack based on your vehicle's weight and the required lift height. Floor jacks are easy to manoeuvre thanks to the castors. Bottle jacks lift heavier loads but need more overhead clearance. Always check the minimum height to fit under the car and the maximum height you need. A stable base and steel construction improve safety. For quads and ATVs, a wider platform is necessary. Never exceed the rated capacity, as it is clearly marked.

Choosing the Right Floor Jack

Match the weight and height

Choose a floor jack based on the weight of your vehicle and the lifting height. Always check the minimum chassis height. That determines whether the jack fits under the car. The maximum lifting height determines whether you have enough room to work safely. Never overload a jack. The maximum load is stated on the type plate.

Workshop jack or bottle jack

A workshop jack is manoeuvrable and ideal for daily use. It fits under most cars. A bottle jack lifts higher loads but needs more space above the vehicle. For a quad or ATV, a special jack with a wide plateau is available. This keeps the vehicle stable while lifting.

Stability and construction matter

A stable base and a steel construction increase safety. Aluminium models are lighter, but check that they can handle the weight of your vehicle. Always use an axle stand when working under the car. A jack is for lifting only, not for supporting.

Also take a look at the full floor jacks and axle stands range for a complete set. If you want to move the car without starting the engine, see positioning aids. For a raised working position without a jack, ramps are a handy choice, and separate axle stands provide safe support while you work.
