Plug-In Ratchets

Choosing the Right Plug-in Ratchet
Connection and drive size decide
The connection of the plug-in ratchet must fit your torque wrench. Usually this is 9 x 12 mm or 14 x 18 mm. The drive size determines which sockets you use: 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch. Check both sizes before you order. A wrong combination will not fit and slows you down.
Where ordering goes wrong
Mechanics often look only at the drive size and forget the connection. The ratchet then does not fit the torque wrench. Measure the opening of your torque wrench or check the specifications. Then choose the right version. This prevents returns and downtime.
Ratchet angle and finish
The number of teeth determines the ratchet angle. More teeth give a small angle, useful in tight spaces. A galvanised or chrome-plated finish protects against corrosion. That extends the tool's life. For daily use, a version with many teeth and a sturdy finish is the best choice.
