Electrics

This category contains testers for the electrical system of cars. Choose a tester that matches the voltage. Classic cars often run on 6 volts. Check whether the car uses contact or electronic ignition. The connection must fit your spark plug or coil. For tachometers, set the correct number of cylinders. That way you get accurate results and avoid mistakes.

Electrical Test Equipment for Cars

Which version suits your car?

Electrical test equipment varies per model. First check the voltage of the car. Classic cars often run on 6 volts, modern cars on 12 or 24 volts. Choose a model that can handle this voltage. This prevents wrong purchases.

Check the ignition type

Cars have contact breaker or electronic ignition. Test equipment does not always work with both systems. Check this before ordering. The connection must also fit your spark plug or ignition coil. A wrong connection gives unreliable readings.

Set the number of cylinders

For tachometers, set the number of cylinders. This is in the tester's manual. If you set it incorrectly, the reading will be wrong. When using a stroboscope, point it at the mark on the flywheel. This lets you read the rpm accurately.

Choose the right tool

For removing and installing electrical connectors and pins, you need disassembly and assembly tools. Think of pull springs and fishing tools. Choose a set with multiple profiles or a single tool. Check the connector size.

For checking and adjusting rpm and ignition, use diagnosis and measurement equipment. A stroboscope works for petrol or diesel. A digital tachometer is set to the number of cylinders. This gives reliable readings.

Which one do you choose?

Working on a classic car with contact breaker ignition? Choose a simple stroboscope. Working on modern cars with electronic ignition? Go for an advanced tester. For connectors, you need disassembly tools. For electrical system measurements, choose diagnostic equipment. You always have the right tool at hand.
