Extractors
An extractor removes broken or stripped bolts from metal. You use it with a ratchet or tap wrench. Choose a set that fits the damaged bolt diameter. Sets cover metric and imperial sizes. Check the drive connection, such as 1/4 or 3/8 inch, so it matches your tools. The profile grips the bolt head or hole, and the material cuts through hardened steel. Compare the size range and profile to find your way out of any stuck bolt.

Screw extractors for damaged bolts
Which size extractor do you need?
Screw extractors come in various sizes. The size must match the diameter of the damaged bolt or screw. Measure the core of the bolt, not the head. This prevents the extractor from breaking or losing grip. Sets often include multiple sizes, from small for M3 up to large for M50.
What to check when ordering?
Check the drive size of the extractor. Versions are available for 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch. Choose the drive that fits your existing tool, such as a ratchet or socket. This way, you do not need to buy new tools. Also consider the form of the extractor. Straight extractors work in a hole, spiral ones grip better on the outside of the bolt.
When to use a screw extractor?
A screw extractor is designed for broken or stripped bolts and nuts. For seized screws, choose an extractor that works as a left-hand drill. It turns the screw out instead of in. Always use a centre punch or a small drill to prevent the extractor from slipping. This works safely and quickly.
An extractor belongs with the special sockets. If a standard socket does not fit, take a look at other special sockets. For rim locks with a unique head you use rim lock sockets, and for groove nuts on axles and hubs there are groove nut sockets.
