Flexible handles have a pivoting head that lets you apply torque where a straight bar won't fit. Choose the length based on the space available. A longer handle gives more leverage but needs more clearance. Always check the drive size, such as 1/2 inch for most car work. Some models have a locking joint or ratchet action for more control.

How they work

A flexible handle has a head that pivots. You can reach bolts and nuts where a straight handle won't fit. Apply force at an angle without twisting your wrist. That helps in wheel arches, along the engine block and under the car.

Length and drive size

Length determines leverage. A long handle gives more torque but needs space. So choose the length based on the space you have. Also check the drive size. For passenger cars, 1/2 inch is common. Heavier trucks need 3/4 inch or 1 inch.

Locking and reliability

When in doubt, choose a version with a locking position. The head won't fold accidentally while working. A firm lock prevents pinched fingers. Before use, check that the hinge moves smoothly and clicks into place.

A flexible handle often works together with other ratchets and extensions. If the head won't fit, try a universal joint or a sliding bar. For fast turning without changing direction, a spinner handle is handy, and with a ratchet handle you apply force in steps.
