Choosing the right inspection mirror

Which size and type fits your job?

Inspection mirrors vary in diameter, length, and shape. A small 30 mm mirror reaches into tight gaps. A large 450 mm wide-angle mirror gives an overview of a whole engine side. Choose the diameter that matches the spot you need to see. A telescopic version extends further, up to almost 900 mm. That way you reach points behind a wiring loom or above the gearbox.

What to check when ordering

Check whether the handle is fixed or extendable. A fixed handle is stiffer and less likely to break. A telescopic handle is handy for varying distances. Also look at the head. Some mirrors swivel and tilt, others are fixed. An adjustable head reaches more angles. A hanging eye or hook at the end is practical. Hang the mirror within reach on the edge of your work area.

Why LED and material matter

In dark spots, an LED-lit mirror is an advantage. The light shines directly on the object. You see cracks or leaks without an extra work lamp. The material of the mirror and handle must resist oil and grease. Plastic is light, but metal is stiffer. Choose a sturdy version that doesn't flex under pressure. That keeps you working safely, even in awkward places.
