Special Ratchets
Special ratchets have a swivel handle or a ball head. They help you reach nuts in tight spots. A swivel handle works like a T-bar and increases leverage. A ball head rotates in any direction. That is ideal for bolts at odd angles. Choose the drive size to match your sockets. 1/4 inch for light work, 1/2 inch for heavy jobs. More teeth mean a smaller swing angle for narrow spaces. The length of the shaft gives you more torque. A hanging hole keeps the ratchet within reach in your workshop. Pick a model with a comfortable, non-slip grip.

Special ratchets for awkward angles
Which type suits your job?
Special ratchets have a swivel handle or a ball end. The swivel handle works like a T-wrench and gives more leverage on stubborn nuts. The ball end rotates in all directions. This way you reach bolts at an angle without searching for the right position. Choose a model with ball end for work where you have little room to turn.
Drive size and number of teeth determine use
The drive must fit your sockets. 6.3 mm is for light work, 12.5 mm for heavy work. The number of teeth determines the swing arc. More teeth mean smaller steps, useful for tight spaces. An extra long handle gives more torque, but adds weight. Choose the length that fits the job and the space you have.
What to check when ordering?
Check the drive size of your existing sockets. A wrong size means your ratchet will not work with your current set. Also look at the overall length and weight. A model with comfortable grip sits better in your hand. A hanging loop keeps your ratchet within reach in the workshop.
Also see ratchets for the full range. If you mainly want smooth reversing, look at reversible ratchets. If your ratchet no longer runs smoothly, a repair set lets you replace the internal parts. For scaffolding work there are scaffolding ratchets. And for driving screws in awkward spots, choose bit ratchets.
