Vernier Callipers
These vernier callipers and depth gauges measure the remaining tread depth of your tyres and the thickness of brake linings. Choose a digital model with a clear display or a mechanical version. Check the measuring range. Most tools are compact and some have a hanging eye. This way you quickly verify your tyres are still safe. A combined model also measures tyre pressure or the pitch circle.

Measuring range and version
A vernier calliper for tyre service measures tread depth and brake lining thickness. Choose a digital model for direct reading or a mechanical version. Check the measuring range. Tyre treads need millimetres, brake linings sometimes need a larger size.
Where ordering goes wrong
Check whether the calliper suits both jobs. Some models only measure tread depth. Others have a separate arm for brake linings. A compact model with a keyring is handy, but it may lack the range for thick brake linings.
Why accuracy matters
A tyre with too little tread loses grip on wet roads. A brake lining below the minimum thickness is a safety risk. So measure regularly. A digital calliper often gives accuracy of 0.01 mm. Mechanical models are fine for a quick check.
This tool belongs with Tyre Service, where you find everything for tyre maintenance. After measuring, check Tyre Inflation straight away and top up if needed. For changing a wheel, use Tyre Transport to move tyres safely. On vehicles with sensors, TPMS is essential for replacement and maintenance.
