Choosing the right brake line and bleeding tools
Which size and type do you need?
To bleed a brake line, you need a wrench that fits the bleed nipple exactly. The most common sizes are 10 and 11 millimetres. Always measure the nipple first, because the wrong size will damage the hex. Choose a wrench with a full opening that slides completely over the nipple. This prevents rounding off the nipple.
What goes wrong when ordering?
A common mistake is buying a bleeding set without the correct adapter. Check that the set suits the make and model of your vehicle. Also check the maximum working pressure when you use compressed air. Too much pressure will damage the brake system. Replace cups and seals on time, because worn rubbers let air in and ruin your work.
Which standard matters?
For brake lines, you should only use parts that meet the current safety standards. Check that the hose and fittings are suitable for brake fluid and the high pressure in the system. Choose the right length and material, so the line does not kink or chafe. This keeps your brake system reliable and safe.
This tool belongs with brakes: special tools. If the caliper has to open or the piston has to go back, look at disc brakes. You make new lines to size with a flaring tool, and for brake shoes or adjusting the handbrake go to drum brakes.
