Compressor oil
Choose the right compressor oil for your unit. Pick mineral or synthetic oil. Synthetic lasts much longer, but you must never mix the two types. Check the manual for the correct viscosity, often ISO VG 32 or 46. Do not use engine oil, it leaves a coating inside.

Compressor oil: choose the right one
Which compressor oil fits your compressor?
Compressor oil comes in two types: mineral and synthetic. Mineral oil suits simple compressors. Synthetic oil lasts longer and copes better with high temperatures. Check the manual of your compressor to see which type you need. Never mix mineral and synthetic oil. That damages the compressor.
Mind the viscosity
Viscosity determines how thick the oil is. For compressor oil, this is usually ISO VG 32 or ISO VG 46. If you use the wrong viscosity, the oil does not lubricate properly. That leads to wear. Check the nameplate of your compressor or the manual. There you will find the correct value.
Where ordering goes wrong
A common mistake is ordering engine oil instead of compressor oil. Engine oil leaves deposits in the compressor. This makes the compressor less efficient. Always choose oil that is specifically developed for compressors. This keeps your compressor working reliably.
