Glow Plug Tools

These universal joint glow plug sockets are designed to reach glow plugs deep inside the cylinder head. The flexible joint lets you work at an angle without slipping. Choose the drive size that fits your ratchet, typically 3/8 inch. Then measure the hex size of the glow plug, often 8, 10, 12 or 14 mm. The six-point profile grips the flat sides securely. The sockets are made from hardened steel and have a protective coating. You can hang them on a tool board thanks to the hole in the handle.

Glow Plug Socket with Universal Joint

What size do you need?

Glow plugs sit deep in the cylinder head. The socket must have the right hexagon size, often 8, 10, 12 or 14 mm. Measure the plug carefully. A wrong size damages the plug or the socket.

Why use a universal joint?

Glow plugs are often angled. With a universal joint you can turn at an angle without tilting. This prevents damage to the plug and the head. Choose the drive size that fits your ratchet, usually 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch.

What goes wrong when ordering?

Many mechanics order only by drive size. But the hexagon size of the plug is just as important. Check both sizes before you order. A set with multiple sockets covers more engines and is more economical than single sockets.
