Alternators are often in a hard-to-reach spot. To loosen the mounting bolt, you need specialised socket bits. These fit on your ratchet or torque wrench. Choose from 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch drives. Alternator Sockets and Bits: The Right Choice
Which size and type do you need?
Alternators are often in a tight spot. The mounting bolt is tucked away. You need special sockets for that. These fit on your ratchet or torque wrench. Choose from 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch drives. The profile is Torx or spline (XZN). Check the size, such as T50 or M10. That way you know the socket fits.
Where ordering goes wrong
Many mechanics order the wrong drive. A 1/2 inch socket does not fit a 3/8 inch ratchet. Always check the drive of your tool. The profile size matters too. A T50 socket is not the same as a T45. Measure the bolt or check your vehicle's specs. This prevents you from buying the wrong set.
