Which size and version do you need?
Padlocks differ in diameter and shackle height. The diameter determines how firmly the lock fits into the eye of the door or cabinet. The shackle height determines whether you can close the lock on thick doors or double hasps. Always measure the distance between the eye and the edge of the door. Choose a lock with an extra high shackle if that distance is large.
Where ordering goes wrong
Many buyers only look at the width of the lock. But a shackle that is too low means you cannot close the lock. A diameter that is too small makes the lock wobbly and less secure. Also check whether you want multiple locks with the same wrench. If so, choose a keyed-alike set. This lets you open all locks with one wrench, handy for home, garden and workshop.
Material and finish
