For places a spanner cannot reach. This fitting has no external hex but a hex socket in the head, so you tighten it with an Allen key through the tube opening.

That also makes it a good deal shorter than the standard version. Handy between two cylinders sitting close together, or in a valve block where the ports are packed side by side.
