Which transmission oil fits your vehicle?

Transmission oil comes in many types. The right choice depends on the manufacturer's specification. Manual gearboxes often use GL-4 or GL-5. Automatics need ATF or DCTF. Always check the vehicle handbook or the maker's spec. This prevents shifting problems and wear.

Watch viscosity and API class

Viscosity, such as 75W-80 or 80W-90, determines how the oil flows in cold and warm conditions. The API class, like GL-4 or GL-5, tells you for which load the oil is meant. A GL-5 oil in a gearbox that needs GL-4 can damage synchros. A GL-4 oil in an axle that needs GL-5 gives insufficient protection.

Where ordering goes wrong

A common mistake is choosing on brand or price. But the spec is what matters. Some oils suit multiple uses, like multi-vehicle oils. They cover a wide range. Others are specific to one gearbox type. Check if the oil meets your vehicle's requirements. This prevents costly repairs later.
