Suspension Springs & Spring Struts
To replace suspension springs and struts safely, you need a spring compressor that matches the spring and your toolkit. Check the drive size: 1/2 or 3/4 inch is typical. A socket set usually contains multiple sizes for different strut nuts. The compressor capacity should handle at least 1500 kg. Always use a safety cable or spring holder to prevent the spring from releasing suddenly.

Safe Work on Springs and Struts
Choose the right spring compressor
Replace coil springs and struts only with a spring compressor that fits the spring. Check the clamping capacity. It must be at least 1500 kg. That holds the spring securely and keeps you safe. A set with different hooks is handy. It handles both straight and tapered springs.
Check sizes and drives
Strut nuts come in different sizes. A socket set with multiple hexagon sizes prevents you from getting stuck. Also check the drive of your ratchet. 1/2 inch is common, 3/4 inch for heavier work. Measure the nut before you order. That way you know the socket fits.
Prevent the spring from flying off
A spring is always under tension. Release it carelessly and it can fly off. Always use a safety cable or a spring holder. It keeps the spring in place, even if the compressor fails. A holder with a protective sleeve prevents damage to the spring. This keeps the job safe and clean.
