Frequently asked questions about Tool trolleys & workshop equipment

Answers to the most common questions from our customers

A trolley with five or six drawers suits most mechanics. Smaller models with three drawers are handy for a tool bag or for mobile jobs. Larger trolleys with nine drawers offer plenty of space but are heavier. Check the sizes and depths you need for your largest tools. Do not choose too small, because they fill up quickly.

On a smooth concrete floor hard polyurethane castors work well. They roll easily and hardly wear. Soft rubber castors grip better on rough floors but leave marks. Always choose castors with a brake on at least two swivel wheels so the trolley stays still during work.

Yes, but check the material and coating. Powder coating resists rust. Do not expose the trolley to rain for long periods. A waterproof cover is a good idea. For outdoor use choose trolleys with plastic or stainless steel parts and a lock on the doors or drawers.

Place the heaviest tools in the bottom drawers. Keep the total weight below the maximum load. Put the trolley on an even surface. Avoid pulling on an open drawer. A low centre of gravity also helps. Use the brake when opening drawers.

An open trolley has no doors and gives quick access for daily work. A closed trolley has a door or a roll top to secure the contents. This protects your tools from dust and theft. Choose a closed model if you store the trolley outside or in a shared area.

Tool trolleys & workshop equipment: the right base

Buy empty or complete?

A complete tool trolley is cheaper per tool and you are ready in one go. If you have been collecting tools for years, you are better off buying an empty trolley with separate inlays. Otherwise you pay for wrenches you already have and end up with two half sets.

Check the inlay type

Inlays are not universal. Each product states its inlay type, and that determines whether it fits your drawers. Measure your drawer height to be sure. Foam inlays keep tools in place and show at a glance what is missing, which is handy when several mechanics work from the same trolley.

Factory equipment: floor and walls

A workshop starts with the floor. Durable plastic tiles click together and lay without tools. They resist oil and grease. For walls, there are modular systems with holders for common tools. A factory equipment setup with floor tiles and wall panels keeps your space tidy and safe.

Delivery: pallet or parcel

Filled trolleys, workbenches and cabinet systems go by pallet and weigh up to several hundred kilos. Pallet delivery means kerbside drop-off, so make sure you can turn around and someone is present. The product page states the weight, so you know what to expect. Loose inlays and small parts go by parcel.
