Combination Spanners

The combination spanner is the essential tool for any mechanic. One end has a ring, the other is open-ended. That lets you work on bolts and nuts from two angles. Choose the correct size and length for the job. Look for chrome vanadium steel and a proper finish. Sizes run from 6 mm to 32 mm. A longer spanner gives extra leverage on stubborn fasteners. Quality pays off with a longer service life.

Combination Spanners: Sizes, Sets and Quality

One tool, two functions

A combination spanner combines a ring spanner and an open end in one tool. This lets you turn nuts and bolts without switching wrenches. The ring end grips fully around the nut, suitable for tightening or loosening stubborn connections. Use the open end where space is tight, for example around pipes or in awkward spots.

Which size and version do you choose?

Combination spanners come in sizes from 6 to 85 mm. For general workshop work, a set from 6 to 32 mm is enough. Always check the size of the nut or bolt you are turning. A wrench that is too small or too large damages the head and the fastener. Choose a long version for heavy-duty jobs. It gives more leverage, without you having to apply extra force.

Sets or single sizes?

For a complete workshop, choose a set. An assortment contains the most common sizes together, often from 6 to 32 mm. This way you always have the right wrench at hand. If you already have a set and one size is missing, or you want a specific wrench for a recurring job, buy a single size separately. That is cheaper than buying a whole new set.

What to look for when ordering?

Do not buy wrenches of unknown origin. They wear quickly and can slip. Choose chrome vanadium steel, which is strong and corrosion-resistant. A good finish ensures the jaws fit precisely. This prevents damage to nuts and bolts. Invest in quality, it extends the life of the wrench and saves costs in the long run.
