Insulated Spanners for Safe Work
Working safely on live parts
Insulated spanners are made for work on installations that are under voltage. They are approved for voltages up to 1000 volts and comply with DIN ISO. You choose the right version and across flats for the nut you need to turn. Always work with undamaged tools. The insulation must be intact, including at the handle.
Assortments or single sizes
An assortment with multiple sizes is handy if you often switch between jobs. You then have the right spanner at hand immediately. A set saves time and space in the workshop. If you prefer to buy individually, you order single sizes. This lets you replace one size or top up an existing set.
Which version suits the job
Insulated spanners are available as single open-end spanner, ring spanner or combination. The across flats ranges from 7 to 24 mm. Choose the profile that fits the nut. A ring spanner grips the nut fully, an open-end spanner is quicker to position. A combination has both ends. Check before ordering whether the spanner is suitable for the voltage you are working on.
Where ordering goes wrong
Only tools with VDE approval and insulation up to 1000 volts are safe on live parts. Never use damaged tools. The DIN ISO 5744 standard is leading for insulated tools. This standard guarantees that the insulation withstands voltage and mechanical load. A hanging hole on the spanner makes storage safe and tidy. If you choose a spanner without insulation, only work on dead parts.
