Assortment or single size?
Choose an open ring spanner set for general workshop work. A six-part set covers common sizes from 8 x 9 mm to 18 x 19 mm. Special sets are available for inch sizes and large nuts. A single open ring spanner per size is ideal for topping up a set or replacing a lost size.
What to check before you buy
Check that the jaws fit the nut properly. A loose jaw damages the nut and slips off quick. Choose a spanner made from hardened steel. That stops the jaws from spreading under high loads. A chrome layer protects against rust. The spanner must meet DIN 3113. That guarantees the right dimensions and strength.
Which version suits your job?
For general work in the workshop choose a set with straight or slightly bent jaws. For tight angles a more bent version works better. Need a torque wrench for precise tightening? Look at the torque wrenches. For work on the front axle or suspension use a combination spanner for extra grip.
