Crowfoot Spanners

What is a crowfoot spanner for?
A crowfoot spanner works like a socket, but open. You fit it on a torque wrench or ratchet. That way you tighten nuts where a socket cannot reach. Think of pipes, hoses or spark plugs that sit deep. The open jaw grips around the nut, without sliding the socket over the whole nut.
Which drive and size do you need?
The drive determines which torque wrench or ratchet the crowfoot spanner fits. Choose 1/4 inch for small nuts up to 14 mm. Use 3/8 inch for common sizes up to 19 mm. For heavy work, take 1/2 inch. Also check the across flats. It must match the nut exactly. A 13 mm nut needs a 13 mm crowfoot spanner, not a 12 mm.
What to watch when ordering?
Measure the nut carefully. A crowfoot spanner in the wrong size slips and damages the nut. Also look at the jaw shape. Some models are thinner and reach even narrower spaces. Choose chrome vanadium steel for strength. A set with common sizes saves you a second order.
