Where non-sparking tools are required

In areas with flammable gases or dust, a standard steel wrench can create a spark. This happens on impact or when it contacts steel. Non-sparking tools are made from copper-beryllium or aluminium-bronze alloys. These alloys prevent spark formation. You use them at petrol stations, refineries and gas installations, in short anywhere ATEX applies.

Which version you choose

You select non-sparking tools per application. For loosening and tightening bolts and nuts, use a wrench or a socket with a hexagon socket. A puller or slide hammer helps remove bearings and gears. Check the size of the socket and the drive, for example 1/2 inch. That ensures the tool fits your material.

Where ordering goes wrong

A common mistake is choosing a standard steel version for an ATEX zone. Always check that the tool is explicitly marked as non-sparking. Size matters too: a socket in the wrong size damages the bolt head. Measure the bolt or nut beforehand and compare with the specifications. This prevents ordering unsuitable tools.
