Choose the right type for your refrigerant
Air conditioning testers are not universal. The refrigerant type determines which equipment you need. R134a and R1234yf require different adapters and pressure gauges. R744 operates at a higher pressure and needs specific sets. Always check the refrigerant type in the vehicles you service. This prevents forcing the wrong connection or misreading the measurements.
Where ordering goes wrong
Most mistakes happen when selecting adapters. Connector types vary by brand and year. A high-pressure adapter for R1234yf does not fit the low-pressure side. Measure the connection or note the vehicle type before ordering. The working pressure of your gauge set must match the system. A set for R134a is not suitable for R744. Choose parts or sets that exactly fit your workshop needs.
Why the standard matters
For leak detection, use an electronic sniffer or a UV lamp. A sniffer detects gas, while a UV lamp reveals oil leaks with UV dye. Both methods complement each other.
