Screw Clamps for Every Job
What size do you need?
Screw clamps are available in sizes from 100 x 50 to 1,000 x 120 mm. The first number is the throat depth, the second is the opening width. Always measure the workpiece you want to clamp. Choose a clamp that is at least 20 mm wider than your workpiece. This gives you enough room to operate the spindle.
Cast iron, malleable cast iron or all-steel?
Cast iron screw clamps are rigid and affordable. They are fine for light woodworking. Malleable cast iron is tougher and can handle higher clamping forces. All-steel screw clamps are the strongest. Use them for heavy structures and metalwork. If you need a lot of force, go for malleable cast iron or all-steel.
What to check when ordering?
Make sure the spindle and pressure piece fit your clamp. They are available separately. A 3K comfort grip feels good in your hand. A wooden handle is classic and warm to the touch. Also check the quality of the thread. A smooth spindle makes the job much easier.
Screw clamps sit under Clamps and tensioners, along with other tools for holding workpieces in place. If you need to push a workpiece apart instead of clamping it, take a look at Spreaders and spring compressors.
