Choosing the Right Air Ratchet
Which size do you need?
Air ratchets come in three drive sizes. 1/4 inch is for light jobs and small screws. 3/8 inch is the daily size for most workshop work. 1/2 inch is for heavy-duty bolts and higher torque. Choose the size that matches the sockets you already have. That way you avoid buying a separate socket set.
Torque and length determine the work
Torque determines what you can handle. For wheel bolts and suspension work, you need at least 100 Nm. For lighter assembly, 50 Nm is enough. Length also matters. An extra short ratchet fits into tight spots, like behind brake calipers. An extra long version gives more reach for deeper bolts. Think about where you will use the ratchet most.
Check air consumption and connection
Every air ratchet has its own air consumption. Check if your compressor can deliver that. Look at the litres per minute during continuous use. The connection is usually 1/4 inch, but sometimes different. Use a good hose with the right diameter. That way you get the maximum torque from the tool.
