Impact Wrenches
An impact wrench delivers high torque with compressed air. You use it for wheel nuts, suspension bolts, and other heavy fasteners. Choose the right drive size: 3/8 inch for light jobs, 1/2 inch for most cars, and 3/4 inch for trucks. Check the maximum torque and air consumption against your compressor. Above 85 dB(A), hearing protection is mandatory. This way you pick the impact wrench that fits your work and workshop.

Choosing the Right Impact Wrench
Which drive size suits the job?
Impact wrenches use compressed air to deliver high torque quickly. The drive size determines what you can do with it. 3/8 inch is for light work, such as small fasteners. 1/2 inch is the standard for most cars and light trucks. 3/4 inch and 1 inch are for heavy-duty bolts and nuts on trucks and industrial equipment. Choose the drive that matches the jobs you handle daily.
What matters when comparing torque?
Maximum torque tells you how much turning force the impact wrench delivers. For car wheel nuts, 300 to 600 Nm is usually enough. For trucks, you quickly need more than 1000 Nm. A too-light impact wrench stalls on seized bolts. A too-heavy version damages smaller threads. Match the torque to the largest fastener you encounter.
Air consumption and noise
Every impact wrench has an air consumption rate in litres per minute. Your compressor must supply that continuously, otherwise the speed drops. Check the noise level too. Above 85 dB(A), hearing protection is mandatory. A good version has a lower noise level or a silencer. This keeps you safe and your compressor within its limits.
