Oil Filter Chain Wrenches

Which size do you need?
An oil filter chain wrench loosens stuck filters. The chain grips around the filter and pulls tight. Choose a model with the right diameter range. Usually that is 60 to 160 mm. Measure the filter diameter before you order. That way you know the chain fits properly.
Where ordering goes wrong
Check the drive type. Some models have a 12.5 mm (1/2 inch) connection for your ratchet. Others have a fixed handle. A ratchet works faster in tight spaces. A fixed handle gives more force. Choose what suits your working situation.
Why a chain wrench?
A strap wrench also works, but a chain grips better on oily filters. The chain tightens as you apply more force. That way the wrench does not slip. Use it only for oil filters. For other jobs there is specific tooling.
These chain wrenches belong to oil service. If the chain does not fit, look at oil filter wrenches and covers or oil filter strap wrenches. For a stuck filter with a special profile there are special oil filter wrenches, and to catch the oil you use a drain receiver.
