Oil Pumps: Which One Fits Your Needs?

Siphon Pumps for Thin Oil

For thin oil, a siphon pump is enough. It works without compressed air and is quick to set up. Check the hose length. It must be long enough to reach the bottom of the drum. A standard drum cap is no problem. For thick oil, a siphon pump is not suitable.

Crank Pumps for Thicker Oil

Crank pumps move thicker oil without compressed air. You turn the handle and the oil flows. This is slower than with air. Choose this pump if you have no compressor. Check that the pump fits your drum. The screw must match the drum opening.

Air-Operated Pumps for Large Drums

Need to empty a large drum quickly? Choose an air-operated pump. It runs on compressed air and moves large amounts of oil fast. Check the air consumption of the pump. Your compressor must supply enough. The pump material must resist oil and temperature. Plastic is fine for standard oil, but not for aggressive fluids.

These pumps are part of a complete oil service. Catch the used oil neatly in a drain receiver and use a filling aid for engine oil to top up again. A new oil drain screw prevents leaks, and with an oil drain wrench you loosen the plug effortlessly.
