Oil Filter Strap Wrenches
An oil filter band wrench wraps a steel band around the filter. You turn it with a handle or a ratchet, giving you grip on even the tightest filter without crushing it. Choose the correct band diameter for your filter. Models have either a fixed handle or a square drive for your ratchet. Band wrenches come in various sizes, and spare bands are sold separately.

Oil filter strap wrench: size and type
Choose the right diameter
An oil filter strap wrench tightens a steel band around the filter. The band diameter determines which filters you can remove. Measure the filter size and compare it with the wrench range. Pick a wrench that fits well within the range, so you do not crush the filter.
Fixed handle or ratchet drive
A fixed handle turns the filter directly. That works fine in easily accessible spots. In tight areas, close to the chassis, use a strap wrench with a square drive for your ratchet. That keeps you away from hot exhausts and sharp edges.
Replace the band on time
A worn band loses grip and slips. That damages the filter and costs time. Spare bands are available separately. Check the band for cracks or distortion before each job. That way you remove every filter without damage.
