The correct size and pitch
Always check the original thread size and pitch of your oil sump before ordering. A wrong size will not fit or can damage the sump. Use a vernier caliper to measure the outer diameter of the drain screw. Determine the pitch with a thread gauge. This ensures you pick the right oil drain screw or repair set.
Where ordering goes wrong
Many mechanics order by eye and end up with a screw that does not fit properly. Always measure the old screw and the sump. Also check the head shape and the required socket size. A drain screw with an Allen head needs a different socket than a hexagon. Check that the set includes a tap to clean the thread before installation.
