Aluminium expands and contracts with temperature, around a quarter of a millimetre per metre per ten degrees. So a fifty metre run moves a couple of centimetres between a cold morning and a warm afternoon.The clips allow that movement and still hold the pipe in place. Space them evenly and never clamp the pipe solid between two fixed points, because then the strain goes into the fittings.
