Choose an axe or splitting hammer based on head weight and handle. Light axes around 600 grams are perfect for kindling and branches. Heavy splitting hammers over 2000 grams split logs in one blow. Fibreglass handles reduce vibration and last longer than wood. Wooden handles give a traditional grip but need oiling. Check for DIN ISO approval to ensure safe use. Longer handles give more leverage, but they reduce control. A hanging eye lets you store it easily.

Head weight and use
For branches and kindling, use a light axe of 600 grams. For splitting large logs, choose a splitting hammer from 2000 grams. A heavier head drives the blade deeper into the wood. That means fewer swings to split.
Handle: fibreglass or wood
A fibreglass handle absorbs vibration and is stronger than wood. Wooden handles are classic but need maintenance. Check the handle for cracks and splinters. A handle that is too short gives little leverage. Choose a length that suits your height.
Safety and standard
Make sure the tool meets the DIN ISO safety standard. A hole in the head makes hanging easy. That way you store the axe safely and keep the edge sharp.
