Measuring Tools
Use a caliper to measure external dimensions, internal dimensions and depths. Choose between analog and digital versions. The 150 mm measuring range covers most tasks. Digital calipers need batteries, so check the type and keep a spare. A storage box protects the tool. That keeps measurements reliable and extends its life.

Buying a Caliper: What to Check
Choose the right version
A caliper measures external sizes, internal sizes and depth. You choose between an analog and a digital version. Analog works without batteries and is ready to use. Digital is easier to read and switches between millimetres and inches. In the workshop, digital is often faster. But analog is more robust and lasts longer.
Check the measuring range
The measuring range determines which sizes you can check. The most common is 150 mm. That covers most brake calipers, bearings and shafts. For larger parts, like flywheels, choose 200 or 300 mm. If you regularly measure small tolerances, a range up to 150 mm is enough. Always check that the caliper fits the largest size you measure.
Accessories and maintenance
Digital calipers run on batteries. Check the type and keep a spare at hand. A storage box protects the tool from dust and knocks. This keeps measurements reliable and extends the life of the caliper. Always store it clean and dry. A drop of oil on the guide keeps the movement smooth.
This measuring tool belongs with hand tools and complements them well. If you need to turn a nut to size, take a look at spanners. For measuring screw thread, use threading tools. Drilling a hole at the spot you measured is done with drills.
