Grommets

Grommets protect cables and pipes where they pass through metal panels or bodywork. They prevent damage from vibration and sharp edges. Choose the right size for the hole and cable diameter. Grommets come in metric and inch versions, and also as assortments. Check the outer diameter and whether they are suitable for hanging.

Grommets for cables and lines

What grommets are for

Grommets protect cables and lines where they pass through sheet metal or bodywork. They prevent damage from vibration and sharp edges. Choose the size that fits the hole and the cable diameter. That way you avoid worn insulation. This falls under Consumables, just like other small parts you replace often.

When to choose them

You use them when routing new wiring or replacing a grommet. Check the inner diameter for the cable and the outer size for the hole. A grommet that is too loose will vibrate out. Too tight and you cannot get the cable through. Combine with Cable Lugs for a neat connection and Cable Ties to secure the loom.

Where ordering goes wrong

Often only the cable diameter is checked, not the panel thickness. A thin grommet in thick sheet metal will not stay put. So always measure the hole, not just the cable. In doubt? Look at Other for non-standard sizes.
