Pliers
Choose pliers that fit the job, and look at length, jaw opening and finish. Ergonomic handles and hardened steel give a firm grip, and VDE insulation protects you when working on electrics. Crimping pliers make reliable connections for ferrules and terminals.

Pliers for the Workshop
Which pliers do you need?
Pliers differ in length, jaw opening and version. For general work, choose a combination pliers. To cut wire or cable, use a cutting pliers. A locking pliers holds workpieces firmly, even under vibration. Always think about what you need to do. This prevents buying pliers that are not quite suitable.
What to check when ordering
Check the jaw opening and length. Long pliers give more leverage but are less manoeuvrable. For electrical work, choose VDE-insulated pliers. They protect you against voltages up to 1000 volts. Never use ordinary pliers on live parts. That is extremely dangerous.
Cables and wires
For stripping and crimping cables, use a wire stripping and crimping pliers. They remove insulation without damaging the conductor. For safety wire and closing bags, use a wire twister. The length determines how powerfully you twist.
Hoses and pipes
For work on hoses and pipes, you need specific pliers. A hose clip pliers clamps hoses or releases clips. A hose disconnect and release pliers reaches awkward spots in the engine bay. For pipes and tubes, use a pipe wrench. It grips the pipe firmly without damaging it.
Precision and special jobs
For fine work on electronics or in tight spaces, choose a long nose pliers. The long, narrow jaws reach far. For fitting internal or external rings, use a circlip pliers. Choose the version that matches the ring you fit. For blind rivets, use a rivet pliers. Special jobs require special pliers, such as a boot clamp pliers or glass breaker.
Safety with electrics
For work on live parts, insulated tools are mandatory. This tooling is tested to 1000 V AC and meets VDE. Never use standard tools for electrical work. That is extremely dangerous.
The right choice
Choose your pliers based on the job. For general work, take a universal pliers or combination pliers. For water pipes and heating, use a water pump pliers. These adjust to the size of the nut or fitting. This way you always have the right tool for the job.
