Answers to the most common questions from our customers
Chrome-vanadium (CV) is harder and holds its dimensions well; it is the standard material for hand tools. Chrome-molybdenum (CrMo) is tougher and deforms rather than breaking, so it copes with shock loads. Impact tools are therefore always CrMo, recognisable by the black phosphated finish instead of chrome.
No. A chrome-plated hand socket is hardened for hand force and can shatter under the shock load of an impact wrench, sending fragments flying. Use only sockets rated as impact sockets. Those are made of tougher CrMo steel with thicker walls.
As soon as you work on the high-voltage system of a hybrid or electric vehicle. VDE tools are insulated and individually tested at 10,000 V, with a working voltage up to 1,000 V. Ordinary tools with a plastic handle do not offer that protection, even though they look similar.
They are standards fixing dimensions, shape and minimum strength. DIN 3113 covers combination and ring spanners, DIN 5264 screwdrivers and ISO 6789 torque wrenches. Tools that comply fit standardised fasteners precisely, which saves you rounded bolt heads.
ISO 6789 sets 5,000 uses or one year, whichever comes first. Always store the wrench released at its lowest setting: if the spring stays under tension the calibration drifts and the applied torque is no longer accurate.

Wrenches and sockets

Pliers and screwdrivers
Pliers come in many versions: combination pliers, stripping pliers, water pump pliers. Choose the pliers that suit the job. Screwdrivers are available with different profiles and sizes.
For cutting sheet metal and cables use knives and shears. Choose shears suitable for the material.
Striking and cutting tools
Hammers and axes and splitting hammers are chosen by head weight and handle. Chisels are used for chiselling off weld spots. Pin punches and centre punches are indispensable for driving out pins and marking drill holes.
For cutting threads you need threading tools. These make internal and external threads.
Drilling, milling and grinding
Drills are chosen based on the material. HSS twist drills are suitable for wood and steel. Milling cutters are used for finishing holes and edges.
With grinding and polishing discs you can finish surfaces. Brushes remove rust and old paint.

Files, scrapers and filling knives
